LNER Azuma arriving into platform 5 at Edinburgh Waverley on the 4th February 2025.

The Class 801 Azuma is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train operated by London North Eastern Railway (LNER) on the East Coast Main Line, branded as “Azuma”, which means “east” in Japanese. The Class 801 is part of Hitachi’s AT300 series, built for high-speed, long-distance travel across the UK. These trains are designed to be faster, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly than older models, replacing the InterCity 225s and some HSTs (High-Speed Trains) on LNER’s routes.

Edinburgh Waverley is the main railway station in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is the second busiest railway station in Scotland, after Glasgow Central, and serves as a key transport hub for both local and long-distance travel.

The East Coast Main Line (ECML) is one of the UK’s most important railway routes, connecting London to Scotland along the east side of the country.
