Growing Daffodils in Zone 9B

Growing daffodils in Zone 9B can feel a little rebellious 🌼😏 but I did my homework and decided to give it a go. I found a variety called Polar Hunter that’s bred to handle warmer climates like ours, which already felt like a win 🌞🌱

One big thing to know about daffodils is that they need a cold cycle ❄️ Since I’m planting in late January, I made sure these bulbs were pre chilled and ready to go straight into the ground. If you’re planting bulbs this time of year in a warm climate, that step really matters 🌼✨

For this project, I kept it simple 🧤🌿 I grabbed my trusty spade, some gravel to improve drainage because bulbs hate wet feet, and Bulb Tone by Espoma for fertilizer. I marked out the area in my garden with a survey flag 🚩 loosened the soil, mixed everything together, and kept a spare bucket nearby so my soil mix didn’t end up scattered all over the garden.

This variety likes to be planted about 6 to 8 inches deep and a few inches apart 🌱 I used four bulbs to create a nice clustered look in the bed. Everything gets filled back in, mulched over, and finished with a good luck pat of course 🤞✨

Now we wait and see 🌼👀 Follow along to see how these daffodils do in Zone 9B 🌱💛
