In this video, we take a closer look at the visual effects behind Sinners and explore how the film achieved its seamless twin performances. One of the most interesting tools used in production was the Halo camera rig — a specialized setup built with multiple compact cameras arranged around the actor’s face to capture highly detailed facial performance data from every angle.

This advanced capture system allowed the VFX team to accurately transfer expressions and subtle movements onto a body double, making complex interaction shots between twin characters feel completely natural. By combining practical on-set techniques with precise digital compositing and performance mapping, the film was able to create convincing, emotionally grounded VFX moments without breaking immersion.
The film was also shot using large-format 65mm film cameras, including IMAX 15-perf systems, which significantly raised the bar for visual effects work. Shooting in IMAX means extreme image clarity, massive resolution, and unforgiving detail — every digital enhancement has to hold up on a giant screen without looking artificial. There’s no room for soft edges or weak compositing when the image is that sharp.

Because of this, the VFX team had to ensure that face replacements, stitching, and interaction shots were flawlessly integrated into the original photography. Lighting consistency, skin texture detail, and eye-line accuracy became critical factors in making the twin performances believable at IMAX scale.
