2020 Peterbilt 389: Tad Schultz's short-trade-cycle custom creation

Built with HD Equipment in Grand Mound, Iowa, this 565-hp Cummins X15-powered 389 dressed with equipment from a variety of suppliers and purchased from Iowa Customs was shown by Peosta, Iowa-based Tad Schultz at MATS 2018 this past March. Independent owner-operator Schultz hauls a Reitnouer 50-foot step deck pulling a variety of freight, some of it oversized, between the region around his home and the Southeast, working with broker Valley Transportation of Minn. Schultz told the truck's story to Overdrive's Todd Dills, including his move recently to a three-year trade cycle -- two-year for his trailers -- to take advantage of a hot market for relatively gently used equipment.
