Lucasfilm kicked off its venture into long-form storytelling on Disney+ just over two years ago with The Mandalorian. Under the leadership of Marvel Studios icon Jon Favreau, Din Djarin's intergalactic adventure became an instant success as the streamer's flagship series at launch, racking up impressive viewership numbers while earning critical success and awards recognition as well.

Favreau turned himself into an entertainment industry icon when he teamed up with Lucasfilm on The Mandalorian, finding himself with the chance to expand Star Wars' lore beyond the big screen. The actor/director did the same thing with Star Wars that he did with the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and he now has credits on arguably the two biggest pop culture franchises running.
