This Tip Tuesday, we are talking about our holistic approach to acne, what that means to us as DMK practitioners, and what that means for you and your skin.

🌱Acne is defined as an increase in cellular proliferation and sebum production, often initiated by a hormonal flux.
.
Acne can be inflamed, hormonal, and/or fungal.
.
Whether your acne is inflamed, has a fungal or hormonal component, or is brought on by symptoms of rosacea or from the depletion of your skin’s natural protective barrier (your acid mantle), discovering the underlying cause(s) of your acne or other skin condition is the first step to treating it.

It can be challenging to revise if you are only looking at one of the components of your acne (or skin condition that is presenting itself as acne).

Instead, we look at all components of your acne to determine its cause which we then use to inform the treatment program we prescribe for relief, revision, and ultimately, remission.

🌱What does a “holistic approach” mean to us as DMK practitioners?

As DMK practitioners, our holistic approach considers the various components working together to improve an overall system—here, the body system—and the systems that make up the body system (digestive, endocrine, lymphatic, etc.).

Approaching a skin condition in any other way does not acknowledge the source of the condition and can therefore not revise it.
