How zip compression works?

How does a 5000KB file become just 50KB?
The answer is repetition.

Compression algorithms look for patterns that appear again and again, then store them in a much more efficient way. Instead of saving the same data hundreds of times, they save a shorter representation of it.

That's why text files often compress extremely well, while formats like JPG, MP3, and MP4 usually don't shrink much as they're already compressed.

Compression isn't magic.
It's clever computer science.
