AWS re:Invent Day 2 Key Announcements: Bedrock, Amazon Nova, Graviton, and SageMaker Updates

AWS re:Invent Day 2 brought a significant set of announcements across hardware, AI models, and developer tooling.

On the silicon side, Graviton chips are now 40% more cost effective and 2.5 times faster than previous generations. Trainium 2 can handle up to 20 petaflops for training and inferencing, with Trainium 3 expected in 2025.

Amazon Bedrock is expanding in two notable directions. Model distillation will allow teams to build more cost-effective, fine-tuned models specific to their use case. For applications where accuracy is non-negotiable, anti-hallucination mathematical reasoning is now built directly into Bedrock.

Agentic workflow development is also getting easier, with agents now buildable using natural language prompting inside Bedrock.

Amazon Nova is AWS's first in-house foundation model family. The initial lineup includes Nova Light, a multimodal model built for affordability; Nova Canvas for image generation; and Nova Reels, currently capable of generating up to six seconds of AI video with plans to extend that to two minutes in 2025.

Amazon Q received meaningful updates on two fronts. For developers, it now generates unit tests, accurate code documentation, and reviews and documents legacy code. For executives, it adds features for optimizing advanced automated workflows.

SageMaker Studio is becoming a unified environment, consolidating all integrated studios into a single interface designed to support cross-team collaboration.

AWS also announced $1 billion in funding for startups in 2025, signaling the scale of investment behind the platform's direction.
