The government of Bangladesh has approved the import of 34,000 metric tonnes of potatoes from India in an effort to control the rising prices of the vegetable. The price of potatoes has been increasing in recent months, and is currently Tk 40-45 per kg, which is higher than usual for this time of year. The government hopes that the imports will help to bring down the price of potatoes before Ramadan.
