In this video, I’ll show you how to play the original Final Fantasy 7 on apple silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) using SummonKit and the 7th Heaven mod manager. This lets you run the PC version of Final Fantasy VII on macOS and also use 7th Heaven mods, including mods like Shinra Archaeology Cut.

Final Fantasy VII is a classic RPG from Square/Square Enix, and while the original PC version is not normally a simple native Mac install, SummonKit makes it possible to launch the game through 7th Heaven on Mac. In this tutorial, I’m using the Steam version, but SummonKit also has instructions for the GOG version.

In the video, I show how to install Steam, download SummonKit, run the Terminal command needed for the Steam version, install Final Fantasy VII, launch 7th Heaven, install FFNx, run the base game, install mods, configure the Shinra Archaeology mod, adjust controller settings, and find the in-game cheat options.

Important notes:
- I’m using the Steam version in this tutorial.
- GOG users should follow the GOG instructions on the SummonKit page.
- Connect your controller before launching the game.
- If the game black screens at first, give it a minute.
- Some early stutter may happen at first, but it smoothed out for me after a little bit (I believe this is shader compilation but I'm not sure)
- Only install mods you trust.
