MAGNIFICENT. Jan Henkels Grandfather Clock Made in Amsterdam. Circa. 1750.

An impressive burl walnut long case clock with a SEVEN Tune, three-train, Musical movement, and an automated brass and painted dial. The dial on this clock measures 14.5 inches across and is colorfully and skillfully painted. The artist has signed his name at the bottom of the dial under the hour numeral VI. His signature reads, “David Coevaadt – Fecit.” Three of the seven figures in the lunette have arms that are automated. The automation starts as the clock works plays music on the hour and half-hour. The time ring of this dial is brass and has been skillfully engraved in the Dutch style. A seconds dial is positioned above the center arbor. Above this is a window that displays the numeral day of the month. The triangular window located on the left displays the month and the number of days in that month. The matching window to the right shows the day of the week and the Zodiac sign associated with that day. Colorfully painted classical figures are also depicted in these locations. Below the center arbor is a moon phase disk. The inner numerical ring tracks the day of the lunar month. The smaller ring above it displays the hour of high tide in Amsterdam.
