The very first perfectly working Uilleann Pipes chanter reed made of plastic

Here you witness the launching of the very first really working reed made of plastic for an Uilleann Pipes chanter...at least, which I know of ! It has been made by Hans-Jörg Podworny, of Peine, Germany, one of the few professional makers in this country. He gave me four specimens, and one of them fits perfectly to a chanter made by Hans Reusch, of Cologne. What i did, was not more than would be necessary to fit a common cane reed: Insert a wire to tune the octaves, flatten the e' by glueing a chimney onto the finger hole, flatten g' and a'. So maybe there is a bright future to come for professional players who do open-air jobs, playing as well in mist or desert. The tunes are: Iníon an Fhaoit' ón ghleann, slow air/ Chief O'Neill' s Favourite, hornpipe. The half set which goes with the chanter is by John Addison, made in 1980.
