Buying a gold watch can be a very big step for most of us. Having the right knowledge and mindset before can help you when pulling the trigger. Here are 5 things that I would like to share with you for buying a gold watch.

1. Know your budget.
This is an important way to start because with this you can set the tone and direction on what to look for before making your purchase. With so many different avenues to take on this approach one could just go in circles or be discouraged if you do not know where to start. There are many options that can fit your budget if you look in the right place.

2. Choose the correct brand
After you know your budget it is also important to choose the correct brand. The reason is because not all watch brands are investments, but you have to buy what you like and can. There are many good options out there from brands that have a heavy discount preowned. Brands like Panerai and IWC have very nice gold watches at very good deals. But you have to buy with a heavy discount. Brands like Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Richard Mille will usually hold the most value long term.

3. Select the right color
The color of gold that you select, whether its rose, yellow, or white says a lot about you. Yellow is the most classic but for some people it may seem a bit to loud and flashy. White gold is obviously the more toned down approach and is more of a "if you know you know" approach. Rose is more toned down than yellow and seems to attract a much more sophisticated look.

4. Condition is everything
Gold watches are a lot softer than steel or titanium watches. When buying one you have to make sure that you are getting a watch that is in good condition. A very poorly polished gold watch can be ruined to the point of no return. So look at them closely.

5. Accept more responsibility
The reason this step is important is because a gold watch demands a much more mature wearer. You will be wearing a more expensive and important item on your wrist. There are more conscious decisions that would have to be made while you wear this watch. An example would be that if you are going to dinner you may want to valet in front of the restaurant rather than parking in the rear. Same goes for activities like for example home improvements. You need to use more care.
