An NT scan (Nuchal Translucency scan) is an ultrasound test usually done between 11 to 14 weeks of pregnancy.

It measures the clear space (fluid) at the back of the baby’s neck. This space tends to be larger in babies who may have certain genetic conditions, like Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, or Patau syndrome, or in some cases, heart problems.

Doctors often combine the NT scan with a blood test (called a first-trimester screening or double marker test) to assess the risk more accurately.

👉 Key points about NT scan:

Done in early pregnancy (11–14 weeks).

Safe and painless.

Helps check baby’s growth and risk of chromosomal abnormalities.

Not a final diagnosis, only a risk assessment.
