GalvaPress008 - Drier_Over Drying - Burning the Flux

ANI Metal's weekly galvanising newspaper 📰GalvaPress…Eighth Edition🤟Editor Geoff Crowley ✒️
Drier
Over drying, burning the flux
* Too high a temperature will burn the flux
* Flux crystals on the surface of the steel contain some water, called water of crystallisation
* Over temperature will destroy the flux crystals making powder that falls off the steel
* No flux crystals on the steel prevents the flux doing its two jobs
* One job is to stop rusting (the zinc chloride), and the other is at the kettle (deoxidation)
* Dries should run below 100ºC and 70-80ºC is usually enough
* Airflow in a drier is more important than high temperature
