Mathematical Physics - Group Theory : Continuous Groups With Special Reference to Group O(3)

So far in the group theory,we have mainly studied finite groups, whose elements can be counted. Example include permutation groups and finite cyclic groups. However,in many branches of physics, particularly classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, particle physics, and relativity, we encounter groups whose elements depend continuously on one or more parameters. Such groups are called Continuous Groups or Lie Groups. Lie groups are differentiable continuous groups. In this video you’ll get the discussion on continuous groups with special reference to group O(3). The concept discussed here forms the foundation for advanced studies of the groups SU(2),SU(3), the Lorentz group, and modern quantum field theory.
