Ancient Mariners at Onepoto

The Ancient Mariners sail their RC boats at Onepoto Lagoon, Northcote, Auckland New Zealand.

Down on Onepoto Lagoon where the winds are shifty,
The ancient mariners gather in the morning sun.
With their boats of all sizes, sailing across the pond,
Under sail, big and small.

Oh the ancient mariners sail, sail, sail,
With their tall tales, and laughter, ringing out
Talking boats, tall tales, stories from long ago,
On Onepoto Lagoon, with an RC boat.

They speak of boat design, politics, and everything in-between
Of the good old days, and races from the past.
“Had her heeling hard to leeward, but she never lost her line,”
Every sailor swears his boat was sailing, just fine.

Oh the ancient mariners sail, sail, sail,
With their tall tales, and laughter, ringing out
Talking boats, tall tales, stories from long ago,
On Onepoto Lagoon, with an RC boat.

And when the wind goes quiet, they don’t ever seem to mind,
They talk of building hulls, and the secrets they designed.
Shaping wood, rigging tricks, adjusting sails,
Never a dull conversation.

Then after all the sailing, around 11am,
Boats packed away, but the stories don’t stop at all.
Down at the café table, cups of coffee in their hands,
More talk of tales from the Ancient Mariners.

Oh the ancient mariners sail, sail, sail,
A bunch of friends, sailing RC yachts.
From the lagoon to the café where the legends always grow,
The ancient mariners of Onepoto… our home of RC sailing.
