About This Story :

As smoke engulfed a Delhi hotel and terrified guests screamed for help, local resident Mohammad Waseem Khan became one of the first people to rush into danger. Alongside a Delhi Police officer, he helped rescue nearly 15 trapped people, many of them foreign tourists who could only communicate their fear through tears. Khan recalls the horrifying moment a woman jumped from the building and died before their eyes, while alleging that delays in the arrival of fire services may have worsened the tragedy. Praising local citizens who stepped up—including a mattress shop owner who donated mattresses to help people escape—he questioned how a building without emergency exits received approval and demanded accountability from officials, licensing authorities, and the hotel owner.
