No shortcuts. No plugins. Just pure Maya nodes and a classic muscle car. 🏎️⚡

I just wrapped up rigging this iconic Ford Mustang GT inside Autodesk Maya, and it was an incredible exercise in mechanical rigging.

​While auto-rigging plugins are great for tight deadlines, building a vehicle rig completely from scratch forced me to dive deep into the math and mechanics of how a car actually moves.

​Key features built into this rig:

​🛠️ Fully Custom Suspension: Built using pure Maya nodes and expression logic to handle chassis roll and pitch naturally.

​🔄 Automatic Wheel Rotation & Steering: Tied directly to the main root controller’s translation—no manual keyframing required for the tires to spin accurately.

​📐 Drift & Body Lean Controls: Separated translation and rotation pivots to give animators full control over realistic weight distribution.

​🧼 Clean Hierarchy: Optimized for viewport performance and completely pipeline-friendly.
