Tinnitus isn't louder at night, here's the real reason

Your tinnitus isn't actually louder at night. The brain's central auditory gain cranks up when ambient sound drops, amplifying whatever phantom signal is already there. Add in shifted blood flow from lying flat and the evening cortisol dip, and the ring feels bigger at 1 a.m. Nothing in your ear changed, the competition went home.
