Scion2D Devlog | Lua Modules, Animation Editor + JRPG Battle System
Another massive update this week for Scion2D, my custom C++23 2D game engine being built for a commercial JRPG project.
In this video:
• Lua Module Support – scripts can now be separated into reusable modules and required throughout the engine
• Animation Clips + Animation Editor – brand new animation workflow directly inside the editor
• Turn Based Battle System – more progress on the JRPG combat system for The Lost Children
• General editor improvements, tooling updates, and engine workflow improvements
The engine is built on OpenGL 4.6, EnTT ECS, sol2/Lua, SDL3, and ImGui. Everything you see in the editor is custom built from scratch.
The goal is to ship The Lost Children, a commercial JRPG, by the end of 2027. These devlogs are the journey toward building both the engine and the game together from the ground up.
