PayPal Killing Cash Rewards, New Amex Card Teased, Hilton Elite Changes

This week in credit card and travel rewards news, several major changes could impact how you earn and redeem points.

Capital One has launched a new Capital One Travel app designed specifically for booking and managing travel. The app allows users to search and book flights, hotels, rental cars, and vacation rentals through the Capital One Travel portal, apply Capital One miles at checkout, and even check real-time lounge capacity at Capital One Lounges, including estimated wait times and digital waitlists.

PayPal is also making a major change to its rewards program. Starting August 1, 2026, PayPal will remove the ability to redeem rewards for direct cash deposits, bank transfers, or debit card transfers. Rewards will instead be primarily usable within the PayPal ecosystem for checkout discounts and merchant offers.

Hilton Honors has introduced a new top-tier elite status called Diamond Reserve, which requires 80 nights or 40 stays plus $18,000 in annual spend. Hilton also announced a new partnership with Yotel hotels through the “Select by Hilton” category and rolled out a new color-coded award calendar to help travelers find lower-cost redemption dates.

Meanwhile, American Express is teasing a potential new business credit card, and new eligibility restrictions may affect some Marriott Bonvoy credit card welcome bonuses.
