Generations of artists from around the peninsula of Malaysia have drawn inspiration from the world around them to create art unique to themselves and their communities. This art has not only transformed over the years, but has also been given a breath of fresh air by the youthful souls that partake in the crafts. Pauline Fan, managing director of PUSAKA, an organization that works towards cultural preservation and documentation, takes us on a journey into the beautiful arts of the country, and some of the creative souls behind them. “Language is the key to the heart of people.”
Literary translator of some of today’s most inspiring works, managing director of PUSAKA, an organisation committed to preserving the energy of the performing arts and cultural heritage of Malaysia and a freelance writer. Pauline has pursued her education in East Asian History, Literature and Philosophy from New York University with a Masters in the German Language, where she graduated from Oxford University. With the fluency of three languages, Ms. Fan has translated several novels, poetry and has been an editor for an assorted range of books including one which paid tribute to her late father.
