An Ottoman Classic: Cağ Kebab | Turkish Delicacies

Ever heard of Cağ Kebabı? It is one of the tastiest traditional Turkish kebabs that is still hidden like a big secret. If you ask Turkish people what is Cag Kebab and how Cag Kebab is made, they would probably give you a blank stare before they decide you are nuts! This is because Cağ Kebab is not as popular as Adana Kebab that everyone (even non-Turks) knows.

Best Cag Kebab is made of mutton because mutton meat is soft and tender. Lamb is another option to cook Cag Kebab with, however it is usually not recommended because it has a specific smell that may put you off. Cağ Kebab may look a lot like Turkish Doner Kebab but it actually has a very different, unique taste. This is because of the diced onions and spices that help marinate mutton for a day before threading onto sticks to be cooked on the wood fire. Wood fire also gives Cağ Kebab an exotic aroma that can not be found in regular Turkish Doner Kebabs.
